Harry Reid continues to hide from the press

leave a comment »

For all the talk we hear about Sharron Angle only doing “friendly” interviews, it sure looks like Harry Reid is flat out hiding from the press.

What’s wrong, Harry, are you afraid of what the people of Mesquite have to say about your tenure as Majority Leader?

Robert Gibbs says leftwing critics of Obama ‘ought to be drug tested’

“I hear these people saying he’s like George Bush. Those people ought to be drug tested,” Gibbs said. “I mean, it’s crazy.”

The press secretary dismissed the “professional left” in terms very similar to those used by their opponents on the ideological right, saying, “They will be satisfied when we have Canadian healthcare and we’ve eliminated the Pentagon. That’s not reality.”

Rep. Charles Rangel says he tried to make deal to avoid ethics charges, but GOP wants trial

leave a comment »

Rep. Charles Rangel told Harlem leaders Saturday he signed a plea deal on ethics charges but that the GOP pushed for a trial.

“He said he had signed an agreement. He was ready to go but I guess politics came into play,” said Assemblyman Keith Wright (D-Manhattan), one of about 50 leaders gathered for a Harlem district meeting Saturday.

Another attendee said Rangel implied, “It was Republicans that didn’t want an agreement” and that he signed a deal before the ethics committee released its report last month.

Rangel, who faces 13 ethics violations, said earlier this week that he won’t settle to make others in Congress “comfortable.”

President Barack Obama sought to help U.S. Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias on two fronts Thursday, raising much-needed campaign cash and reassuring voters that the Democrat is a trusted ally who can be counted on to help advance a progressive agenda.

The nearly $1 million fundraising event at the Palmer House Hilton highlighted a quick visit by Obama back home to Chicago that also included a tour of a Southeast Side Ford plant and a 49th birthday dinner Wednesday night with friends including Oprah Winfrey.

FiveRepublicans joined all but one Democrat and the Senate’s twoindependents to support Kagan. In a rarely practiced ritual reservedfor the most historic votes, senators sat at their desks and stood tocast their votes with “ayes” and “nays.”

AP sources: 3 charges filed against Rep. Waters

leave a comment »

California Democrat Maxine Waters faces a House trial this fall on three charges of ethical wrongdoing, setting the stage for a second election-season public airing of ethics problems for a longtime Democratic lawmaker.

The charges focus on whether Waters broke the rules in requesting federal help for a bank where her husband owned stock and had served on the board of directors. She denied the charges Monday.
